THOMAS A EDISON

Thomas Alva Edison, otherwise known as ‘the wizard of menlo park’ was born on february 11th 1847. Growing up, Edison didnt attend school for long, only for a few months, however his mother Nancy Edison, taught him reading, writing and arithmetic. Edison was a very independant child as he taught himself much by reading many books on his own.

At an early age, Edison began working as a newsboy, and during his spare time, Edison was always reading, reading books such as scientific and technical books which gave him an opportunity at that time to learn how to operate a telegraph. This lead him to a chance to be a telegrapher, full time at the age of only 16.

Whilst working as a telegrapher, Edison found a new hobbie and started spending all his free time to experimenting and research. During his time of experimentation and research, Edison had discovered many inventions, inventions which changed the world.

EDWIN S PORTER

Edwin S Porter a pioneer of silent film, known for his greatest triumph the great train robbery (1903). Porter joined Vitascope marketing company (1895) and had undertaken the role of electrical engineering. Before Porter had become a freelance projectionist at the ‘Eden Musee Theatre’ (1898), he used his engineering skills at Edison’s Manufacturing company in the laboratory.

During Porters time at Edison’s Manufacturing Company, he experimented with many roles including directing the actors and operating the camera at Edison’s New York Studios.

Inspired by the films of George melees , Porter went on to make films of his own like life of an American Fireman and The great Train Robbery , and eventually collaborated with many other filmmakers.
